Here’s how Cathy LeTray, our Casual Day Project coordinator, put it this Christmas, “This is our second year adopting families at the Utica Municipal Housing Authority. We have been so blessed that we have been able to give these families a helping hand.”
Our adopted moms, Ernesha and Mikya, had been living in shelters so their apartments at the Utica Municipal Housing Authority had very little inside. We decided to purchase each family a sofa and recliner. One family received a new kitchen table and chairs while the other got a nice, new dresser, coffee table, and end table.
We bought both families dishes, pots and pans, glasses, silverware, a microwave, toaster, and new bedding and towels.
And Santa didn’t forget the two children. For them we had some fun buying clothes and toys. Plus, we added an additional family to our list and purchased toys for their three kids.

Our Casual Day Project gets everyone in the agency to donate $5.00 each month for the privilege of wearing jeans on Fridays. At the end of the year, we use that big pot of money to buy furniture and household items for local families who can use the help.
From all of us here at Scalzo, Zogby & Wittig a BIG thank you to Bob Calli and the Utica Municipal Housing Authority for providing us the opportunity to help. And we appreciate them working with us to deliver the goods. Santa himself would be proud!
Cathy summed it all up with this, “What a way to make our own Christmas special knowing we were able to help two single mom’s get a hand up! They were both really nice young woman. I’m looking forward to doing it again next year.”
