The Principals

“It’s a privilege to have earned the trust of my clients over the last 30 years.

“Clients rely on us to protect them with quality insurance and advise them on ways to manage their personal and business risks. And I enjoy Central NY…it’s a close knit community and clients are like family.

“As a specialist in commercial lines, my first step in analyzing risk and recommending the right insurance is to learn how my client’s business operates. Then we recommend coverages and present the account to our insurance carriers.

“Since we represent some of the largest, most respected A-rated companies in the industry, our clients know they’re getting the right insurance at the right price.

“After we write the account, I like to meet with clients face-to-face throughout the year. We are very approachable here at Scalzo, Zogby & Wittig, Inc. We perform when called upon…whether it’s a review of coverage, a claim, or billing question.

“We make good things happen for our clients.”

Gary started his insurance career specializing in Commercial Lines with Friedlander Insurance in 1977. He joined the Smith, Treiber, and Wittig agency in 1980 as a business insurance producer until he and Steve Zogby purchased the firm and formed Scalzo, Zogby & Wittig, Inc. in 1992.

Gary serves and has served on many Boards such as the Resource Center for Independent Living, Central Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, Workforce Investment Board, Commercial Travelers Insurance, United Way, Revolutionary Trails Council BSA, Yahnundasis Country Club, and Fort Schuyler Club.  He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree.

Gary grew up and still lives in New Hartford with his wife, Marcia. He has two daughters, a son, five grandsons and one granddaughter. In the winter, you’ll probably find him alpine skiing (especially in New York State’s Whiteface and Gore Mountains). The rest of the year it’s family, hunting, and maybe a little golf.

“I’ve spent most of my career specializing in Commercial Lines insurance. One of the things I really enjoy about it is the opportunity to get to know how so many different businesses operate here in Central NY.

“My clients rely on me to manage their business risk and take care of their home and car insurance. That’s what brings me back each day…the friendships I’ve made here in the Mohawk Valley and the privilege of serving the community all of these years.

“The people here at Scalzo, Zogby and Wittig, Inc. will always do the right thing for customers. Everyone who does business with us can rest easy knowing that their insurance is being handled by knowledgeable people who care.”

After Steve graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College in 1982 and SUNY Brockport in 1984, he started his insurance career at DeAngelo & Associates. He then became a producer specializing in Commercial Lines at Alexander & Alexander, Inc. in Utica. He joined Gary Scalzo at Smith, Treiber, and Wittig, Inc. in 1989 and started Scalzo, Zogby & Wittig, Inc. with Gary in 1992.

Steve is a member of the board of the Oneida County Industrial Development Agency, a board member of the Mohawk Valley Community College Foundation, President of the board of CNYHHN, Inc., an organization that provides care management services in 7 counties, and is on the agents’ advisory board of the Adirondack Insurance Exchange. He is past Chair of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of New York.

Steve grew up in Utica and then moved to New Hartford just before college. He still lives in New Hartford with his wife, Noreen, and three sons. He enjoys golf, exercise and 5:30 a.m. spin classes at Paragon Athletic Club.
