Team SZW and America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk

10,000 people! That’s how many runners, walkers, volunteers, and families participate in America’s Greatest Heart Run & Walk at Utica College. This year it’s Saturday, March 5, 2016 with the Expo on Friday, March 4.

And the goal this year? A whopping $1,090,817!!

We’re proud to be a major sponsor plus we’ll be fielding the largest Scalzo, Zogby & Wittig team ever for the event. Captained by our own Patty Terenzetti, we’ve got 9 runners/walkers (mostly walkers) taking to the pavement. And, yes, that includes Gary Scalzo and Steve Zogby. And Patty has committed (if it’s not too cold!) to the 3 mile run and then the walk.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for Americans. So the Heart Run & Walk raises money for the American Heart Association. But maybe more important, it gets participants on the path to a healthy life of good eating and exercise.

And that’s the focus of the Expo this year, health and wellness. Dr. Mark Shug is chair of the Expo and he’s excited to celebrate the Expo’s 30 year anniversary. Features of the Expo are the Fitness Zone, which will focus on physical activity, the Healthy Living Zone protecting hearts, and new this year a Kids Zone with heart healthy activities, story times, and crafts.

There will also be cooking demonstrations with olive oil, healthy baked goods, and cholesterol lowering beef chili. You’ll get all the info you need to lead a heart healthy lifestyle.
