After getting your car ready for winter, we think the best approach to driving icy conditions is to adjust your driving behavior based on the road conditions you face.

Reduce your speed and increase the following distance between your vehicle and the one ahead. This provides ample time to react to unexpected situations, such as sudden stops or skidding.

Gentle and gradual movements are crucial; avoid sharp turns, abrupt acceleration, and sudden braking, as these actions can lead to loss of control on icy surfaces.

Maintaining a smooth and steady pace is vital for safe driving on ice. Accelerate and decelerate gradually to avoid wheel spin and skidding.

And if your vehicle begins to skid, steer in the direction you want to go and avoid slamming on the brakes. If you don’t have an anti-lock braking system (ABS), pump the brakes gently. This allows you to regain control of the vehicle without exacerbating the skid.
