If you have a newer car, we’ll talk about Physical Damage Coverage. Collision pays to repair or replace your car in the event of an accident regardless of fault. Comprehensive covers for perils such as broken glass, theft and vandalism, and animal collision. (In the Mohawk Valley and especially in the Adirondacks, that often means hitting a deer!)
Liability coverages pay if you’re sued because of an accident. No-Fault pays your hospitalization regardless of who caused the accident. These important coverages demand careful consideration because of the legal and financial consequences of a severe accident and possible lawsuit.
Your rates are based on a number of factors, such as the age of your car, how far you drive to work, and driving records. We have easy access to NYS Motor Vehicle records from our agency, so we’re sure to place you with an insurance company that offers the best price. And we’ll be sure you get all of the auto insurance discounts you deserve.
Below you’ll find a short description of each Personal Auto Insurance Coverage and a list of the many discounts available to our car insurance customers.
Here at Scalzo, Zogby and Wittig, Inc., we’re ready to answer questions about your auto policy and all of the discounts available to you. With premiums increasing, there’s never been a better time to get a second opinion on your car insurance.
Auto Insurance Coverage
Mandatory Coverages in New York State
Bodily Injury and Property Damage Liability (BI/PD)
Bodily Injury Liability protects you if you’re sued and found negligent for injuring someone else in an automobile accident. Liability coverage also pays your legal defense costs.
Property Damage Liability pays if you are found negligent for damaging someone else’s property in an automobile accident. This can include their car or other property such as a house, fence, lawn, etc.
No-Fault Benefits-Personal Injury Protection (PIP)
Personal Injury Protection pays promptly, regardless of who’s at fault, for medical/health expenses, lost earnings, and other reasonable and necessary expenses related to injuries sustained in a car accident. The driver of your car, its passengers, or pedestrians are all covered under No-Fault.
Basic PIP limit is $50,000 with $2,000 per month loss of earning. Additional amounts of coverage are available as Additional PIP.
Uninsured Motorists Coverage (UM)
If an uninsured motorist or a hit-and-run driver injures you or other occupants of your vehicle in an accident, Uninsured Motorist Coverage responds to help pay your losses. It would also apply if a vehicle strikes you or a member of your family as pedestrians.
Supplementary Uninsured/Underinsured Motorists Coverage (SUM)
This coverage responds if an at-fault driver injures you and the people in your car and his/her insurance limits are too low to cover your loss. You can collect the additional amount from your own policy up to your limit of Underinsured Motorist Coverage.
Medical Payments Coverage
Pays medical and funeral expenses for you and others hurt or killed in an accident while in your vehicle. This coverage applies even if the driver of your car is at fault.
Collision is an optional coverage that pays to repair or replace (current market value) your vehicle if it’s damaged in an accident. This coverage pays even if an accident is your fault. It will pay the amount necessary to repair your car up to its current value. If you’re financing your car, your financial institution will most likely require you to carry Collision Coverage.
Damage to your vehicle can result from hazards other than a collision. Fire, theft, vandalism, water, hail, glass breakage, and animal collision are some of the exposures your Comprehensive Coverage will pay for. This coverage is also optional, but if you are financing your car, you will probably be required to carry it.
Towing and Labor
Pays towing expense resulting from an accident.
Increased Transportation (Rental Reimbursement)
Pays to rent a car while your car is being repaired as a result of an accident.
