A Red Ribbon Reminder for Thanksgiving

designated driverWe ran across a great idea the other day that reminds us to be safe drivers during this holiday season. It’s the Tie One On For Safety initiative by Mothers Against Drunk Driving. The idea is to use a red ribbon to remind everyone to always designate a non-drinking driver when out with friends and family.

“Tying one on” is the common phrase we use to talk about drinking a bit too much. Change that to “Tying one on for safety” with a red ribbon as a reminder, and you get awareness that drinking and driving don’t mix.

This is especially true on Thanksgiving Eve, a big night for bars. In fact, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Thanksgiving from 6:00 PM Wednesday to 5:59 AM Monday is the deadliest holiday of the year on our roads.

The NHTSA is spreading the word on safety this year with an all-out social media blitz starting November 22. They’re calling it, “Make It to the Table: Don’t Drink and Drive this Thanksgiving Eve.” You can help by Sharing their posts. Just go to their Facebook pages and hit Share.

And remember, a designated driver is truly lifesaving. But so are taxis and Uber. Yes, Uber is available locally and we urge you to make use of their worry free transportation.

All of us at Scalzo, Zogby & Wittig, your Trusted Choice agency, wish you and your family a fantastic Thanksgiving. There’s plenty of football, with the Giants (who finally won last week) playing the Redskins, the Chargers vs the Cowboys, and the traditional game with the Lions playing the Vikings in the famous Black and Blue Division.

Enjoy the turkey, stuffing, and, yes, the turnip that grandma brings every year (it is really good!).

And remember the red ribbon and drive safe!

Until next time,
