Eyes to the Sky and Be Prepared

Hurricane season is officially upon us,  and while you may think you don’t need to be concerned, think back to Superstorm Sandy last year.  While hurricanes are unlikely in our area, the residual effects seem to reach this far.   Flooding has occurred in our area; high winds, hail and thunder storms that take down trees and knock out power have been passing through our area with more frequency.

Everyone should have some type of Disaster Preparedness plan, from homeowners to business owners, making a detailed inventory of everything you own.  Here are just a few tips to help you become more prepared should the need arise:

1.    Do not shrug off the National Weather Service’s warnings you see flash across your TV screen.  Be prepared to evacuate if necessary.

2.    Have at least a 3-day supply of water; one gallon per person per day.

3.    The same with food, a least a 3-day supply of non-perishable, easy to prepare.

4.    Keep a flashlight handy, along with extra batteries.

5.    A 7-day supply of medications, and or medical items, if possible.

The list goes on and on, and you can see this and much more at the Safeco Insurance Company’s website.
